Gulf of Tehuantepec (the beast)

December 13th, 2006

This 300 mile leg is the most treacherous we will face on purpose.According to bouyweather.com Friday/Saturday is our window of opportunity to reach Guatamala. Our mechanicals are sound unlike our minds..We do have 2 days to address that issue and fill up our fuel.We keep meeting people who stopped here 20 years ago and are still here..It’s kind of like Key West for the jet set.Because of the ongoing rebellion here in Oaxaca, travel inland especially at night is unadvisible. However here on the beach there have been no problems except those you cause yourself. For the truly adventureous Puerto Angel/Zipolite is a home run.Our EM is harry@intabillfishing.com

Looks like your are having a great time. Enjoy every minute, you have earned it.

ps — Love that canoe, it’s a bit larger than the 16″ Lund which was owned by Anne’s dad.

Have a great and safe trip.

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year.

On an old chart we found an undersea Volcano approximately 23 miles off the coast of Bahia de Puerto Angel…..None of the local fisherman know anything about it so we are dedicating a day for the hunt.

ROAD TRIP

December 11th, 2006

After arriving at Club de Yates in Acapulco for some R&R and repairs took a ride to Mexico City.Visited US Embassy for some travel documents and yes there is effiency and professionalism in the midst of chaos.Visited Cuernavaca a fab. mountain town where Henry spent a semester and learned Spanish…Crossed passes in the Sierra Madres to 9300 ft. with Volcano’s or remnants in view.Said goodbye to Dr.Tony and Jeff B. and are at sea headed for Zipolite our last stop before the final 300 mile run to the fabled billfishing grounds of Guatamala…

Mexico is pretty fun. Just watch out for the guys in black with submachine guns…they are called Federales or sir.
Have fun in Zipolite right outside of puerto angel. There is a place on the hill to the right when you look at the ocean. If you go on the other side, there are awesome cliffs.

    Love you!

BEYOND EXPECTATION

December 2nd, 2006

Zihautanejo is still the 2 dollar a day hammock between the palms on the beach place of yesteryear. We are anchored in a little cove surrounded on 3 sides by towering rock formations with the crashing Pacific as our surround sound.Meanwhile Inta has taken the dinghy to town for the finals of the male strippers contest…

Puerto Vallarta

Posted by Harry via email:
After previous attempts where we turned back due to treacherous sea conditions we finally made the 355 mile trip across open ocean….And we caught a Marlin at dawn yesterday. Arrive last nite and tied up to a slip in a Marina where for the first time in 2 weeks we can walk off the boat onto land.Hanging out here for a few days of R&R and repairs and then start fishing our way 500 miles down the coast to Acapulco.

Editors note: The internet connection on the boat has been intermittent since they left Cabo, so posts, emails, etc. may be delayed. -Gabe.
