BANKO HANNIBAL PANAMA
January 20th, 2011It’s Sun.nite Jan16…We have just finished our 2nd day on the grounds…My team consists of my redneck cousins Mitch,Bobby,Tom and Steve from Lawrenceville Va.along with mate Beto and Capt.Sean Schumacher..We’ve been searching the 30 square mile area 80 miles offshore for the bite. We’ve seen only 1 other sportsfisherman in the area and he made 1 pass, pullled it and fired off to Suenos where he said the bite was on.(he was wrong)..So far we have 2 Blue Marlin, one a 500lbs.monster(caught at the Burica Seamount CR on the way over).Raised a few more .We also have 3 sails,2 nice Mahi and a pair of 60″x40″ (Capt.Tim whats the weight formula?)yellowfins to the boat.To be honest I’m disappointed with the action thusfar.Late today while pioneering a new location along a steep 300′ to 3000′ drop to the east of the bank we raised some nice Marlin(shoppers) and picked off the yellowfins. We only had 90 minutes of light and our plan is to pound the spot first light tomorrow. We have video and pictures, will download later.Weather perfect, sea conditions slight swell, water blue 86 degrees.beer cold, ceveche mahi, tuna sushimi….company awesome
Length X Girth Squared divided by 800
WTF?? My first calculations had those yellowfins @ 7200 lbs!!! AWSOME!! … recalculating.. ( heard that on a GPS one time I think ) ahh now I’m coming up with 50 lb yellowfin according to my novice guess using Capt. Tim’s formula. Hey, whatever the weight, sounds like some GOOD eating to me. Sounds like a great time on Thumper! Can’t wait for te real experience myself. Keep the boat in the fish! Toddy
if its 60 long 40 girth
60 x 1600 = 96000 / 800 = 120lbs
WOW Thanks Capt. Tim for getting me right with the math. CATCHING big fish is my strong suit, obviously Math & Spelling r not Toddy
Thanks Capt.Tim,Toddy’s forte is 6v to lightning bolt…Whether he can catch BIG fish or not we’ll find out in march when the 70×50’class yellowfins are running off the Banko….see Jan 2010 travelog
Harry, Good that your getting dialed in at the Banko. By the March trip, we should be in the soup at every turn. Might bring some new stand-up-gear to try on those Tuna cows. “countin” the days!!
Disappointed?? your spoiled. Try harder.
hope no more reels have blown up!!
