Awesome day…This is what we have travelled 3000 miles to find.11 miles off the beach with 4 volcanos as a backdrop and billfish freejumping in every direction,,,,at least 60 shots today…Doubles.Triples..Pretty blue water and all to ourselves…
Released 16 of 22 hooked with just the 3 of us.Small ones 60lbs with many over a hundred.Spooled out on 1 on a 20lbs outfit.Went through 6 /12 packs of mediums,,,could not rig baits fast enough….Learned a lot today..Will be better prepared tomorrow

Iztapa, Guatemala

Sunday, December 17th, 2006

Arrived noon today…The bite is on…..Ron Hamlin (Capt.Hook) and several other pro boats had 50 shots within 15 miles of the beach.Customs and Immigration,Port Control and the Gestapo proved to be professionally corrupt and consequently manageable. We now are legally here for 3 months.Tomorrow will be our first day on the grounds and we plan to show the locals we OC boys know how to swim a ballyhoo with the best of them. This place is so remote that even though it is the #1 place in the world for Sails this month only 7 pro boats from the states and 1 from Puerto Rico are here.We are not even going to consider leaving until we have had 100 bites.Check out pacificfins.com or finsandfeathers.com for local links and fishing info….

Now that’s what I’m talking about….Favorable conditions look towards landfall at Iztapa (Marina Pez Vela) Guatemala in about 16 hours….We are currently about 40 miles from the border and are Jonesing for some action..The circulating rumor that my clients are taking up a collection to buy me fuel so I won’t come back and the Dow will go to 15000 is pure BS. The truth is…

We are now 135 miles out working towards Guatamala…Last night was brutal….Gale force or better from 10PM till 4 this morning.Sea conditions were high and tight .Winds now down to 15/20 and seas are moderate. And the Port Captain called these conditions “favorable”.We have a little Mikelson convoy going with Destiny a 64 custom dive boat leading.Go Fisch (ESPN SAT?SUN?) a 70 and us.Should hit the border around midnight….Time to lock and load

Gulf of Tehuantepec (the beast)

Wednesday, December 13th, 2006

This 300 mile leg is the most treacherous we will face on purpose.According to bouyweather.com Friday/Saturday is our window of opportunity to reach Guatamala. Our mechanicals are sound unlike our minds..We do have 2 days to address that issue and fill up our fuel.We keep meeting people who stopped here 20 years ago and are still here..It’s kind of like Key West for the jet set.Because of the ongoing rebellion here in Oaxaca, travel inland especially at night is unadvisible. However here on the beach there have been no problems except those you cause yourself. For the truly adventureous Puerto Angel/Zipolite is a home run.Our EM is harry@intabillfishing.com
